Quality Candy CEO Delivers Medical Supplies To Haiti

Henderson, NV. February 4, 2010 – Typically, you’ll find Pierre Redmond flying his Cirrus SR22 airplane for business meetings relating to his candy company. Now, after logging over 40 hours of flight time delivering medical supplies to Haiti, he has a less sweet story to tell. On February 11th, Mr. Redmond will be hosting a presentation at the Henderson Executive Airport at 6:30pm to encourage others with private aircraft to join Bahamas Habitat and other organizations to aid in the delivery of much needed medical supplies to the suffering people of Haiti.

An online letter posted on a pilot’s discussion board from his friend, and fellow pilot Dr. Richard McLaughlin asked for a list of supplies that he desperately needed. Mr. Redmond, who is normally CEO of Quality Candy Company, decided then & there to fuel up his plane and pack it full of as much of that list as possible.

“Like most people, I usually rely on the relief organizations to do their thing. However, in this case, a specific doctor I know wrote so clearly about a specific need, and after realizing that I have the resources to fill them, I had to do it.  Reading about doctors performing amputations with saws they picked up at Home Depot and fashioning splints made from Re-bar moved me to action.”

While other relief efforts are focusing their efforts on supplying Port-au-Prince, Bahamas Habitat has been able to send its smaller aircraft to Port-du-Paix, Pignon, La Gonave, Les Cayes, Jacmel, Cap Haitien and other outlying towns and islands,” noted Abraham McIntyre, executive director of Bahamas Methodist Habitat and chief coordinator of the organization’s operations from “Command Central” in Nassau. “People are moving out to these areas seeking help and evacuation and the clinics and hospitals are overrun there without enough medical supplies. In many cases we are their primary lifeline. We are making a difference and the impact is growing.”
