After years of making some of America's "fastest moving" candies, King Leo Candy has appeased its need for speed by sponsoring one of motor sports' hottest new stars Allen Gordon. The 18-year-old racing sensation was recently named "Rookie of the Year" for the UARA-STARS series, the premiere feeder circuit to wildly popular NASCAR racing.
"We're looking forward to the first race of the 2003 season in Anderson, SC, and to being competitive in every race this year," Gordon said. "We've got our eyes set on the championship, and since most every UARA-STARS race will be televised (on FOX SportsNet) more people will have their eye on this popular racing series."
While racing to his "Rookie of the Year" honors, 18-year-old Gordon balanced his senior year in high school with his fast-moving career as one of the brightest superstars in the UARA-STARS series. "Racing is a lot like candy making," observed the talented teenager. "To achieve consistent results, you must have top quality components and a solid crew behind you. That's why I am proud to team up with King Leo Candy, and their winning attitude."
Nicknamed "Commissioner Gordon" because of his ability and professionalism at such a young age, Gordon started racing competitively in 1995. "Allen has demonstrated that he is on of the elite young professionals in racing today," said King Leo Chairman Pierre "Pete" Redmond. "We're pleased to have him representing our company in this increasingly 'youth-drivin' world."

Quality
Candy Company, parent company of King Leo, has acquired Gilliam
Candy Brands' Paducah, Kentucky based hard candy business.
The purchase agreement applies to certain assets of Gilliam's
hard candy business, including the Gilliam Paduke stick product
brand name and specialized equipment that the company uses
to make old-fashioned stick candies in a variety of flavors.
Gilliam's
stick candies, including Old-Fashioned Stick Candy, Old
Paduke, Lil Paduke, Baby Paduke and Paduke Jr. mint sticks
will be incorporated into Quality Candy's stick candy business
that includes nationwide distribution through all classes
of trade. And according to both companies, the lineup of
brokers handling the Paduke business will not change.
The
deal "will bolster [Quality Candy's] position as one
of the industry's largest hard candy manufacturers,"
said Pierre "Pete" Redmond, Julian, California
based Quality Candy's founder and chairman
